Web 2.0 & Chronic illness

I just read the article from Healthcare Quarterly on Web 2.0 and Chronic Illness.
After I read the article, I think I am more open minded about the place of social networking in the consumer health field. I am more convinced that it will be a good thing to have the support of people who have the similar condition. It is not always easy to get to a support group, or when it is not accesible at where you live. This way it has the advantage to talk among those suffering from chronic illness. It is free and you can be anonymous. It will permit group members to draw from a wide variety of perspectives and experiences.

social network

Maybe MLA member who has the same specific interest can get togather in social network and discuss the subject. But I don't think social network will not be suitable in our library set up. People care more about their privacy as I observe. I myself for one do not feel very comfortable being in the open space.

Web 2.0 Week 1

I have created a blog, set up an RSS reader, subscribe to 5 RSS feeds for now.
I think RSS feeds will be very helpful to our library work, for one thing I can set up table of contents of certain journals and send to people who are interested in it. I can send pubmed search for certain topic they are interested. Eventually I hope I can either set it up at their perspective office or teach them to do it themselves.
